Back to the classic rock catalog
What's the purpose of this site? |
The Classic Rock Catalog is a list of albums by my favorite classic rock bands.
The purpose of this catalog is to make it easier to find albums and tracks by these
artists.
|
Do you own all these albums? |
I own many (but not all) of these albums. I'm constantly on the lookout
for CDs I don't already own, especially those by obscure, out-of-print
bands. Send me mail if you're looking to sell something I don't already
have. Sorry, I only buy genuine CDs in good condition - I'm not interested
in CD-R copies or MP3s.
|
Can I download music from your site? |
No. In case you're not already aware, obtaining music without having
paid for it is illegal. No part of my CD collection is available for
downloading, copying, sharing, swapping or sale.
|
How can you hope to afford a music collection this extensive? |
By shopping wisely! One of my favorite sources is Amazon,
where you can find new and used CDs at great prices. I'm also a big fan of music clubs such as
Columbia and
BMG, where you stand to benefit by
fullfilling your membership obligation as soon as possible. Music clubs
are also a good source of box set collections, which can be hard to find (and
expensive) at record stores.
|
What's your opinion about MP3s? |
I think the MP3 format is great for taking music on the road. I have
an Aiwa MP3 player in my car and find it convenient to listen to a CD that can contain
a hundred songs. However, MP3 compression is noticeably lossy. While this
matters less when listening to music while driving, I don't think it's a viable
medium for listening to music at home. My Sony ES300 amp and Infinity-RSe speakers
easily reveal the compromised quality of MP3 tracks.

What would be your ideal music device? |
A solid-state 16TB player with upgradeable firmware that sells for under $200. I might have to wait a few years! |
