Modifying a portfolio
You can modify any aspect of a portfolio. To modify a portfolio:
- Select the portfolio in the TakeStock Explorer, click the Portfolio button and select Edit from the drop-down menu.
- or -
Right-click the portfolio in the TakeStock Explorer and select Edit from the pop-up menu. - The Edit Portfolio window appears.
- Select the General tab.
Here you can:
- Rename the portfolio.
- Move the portfolio to a different folder.
- Add or change the comment associated with this portfolio.
- Select the Precision tab.
Here you can change how this portfolio's numeric information is displayed. You can choose the number of decimal places used to display:
- cash amounts
- share quantities
Regardless of the display precision chosen, share quantities and cash amounts are always stored internally with a high degree of precision.
- Select the Advanced tab.
Here you can select:
- Whether a new position's purchase price should be automatically deposited into the portfolio prior to purchase, thereby ensuring the portfolio's cash balance never becomes negative.
- Whether positions can be purchased even if the portfolio doesn't contain sufficient cash.
- Whether the portfolio should differentiate between short- and long-term capital gains, and if so, the number of days a position must be held in order to be considered a long-term hold.
- The amount of margin debt owed.
- When you have finished making changes, click OK.
