To select a new portfolio's default settings:

    1. Select the Tools | Options | New Portfolio menu command.  The Settings For New Portfolios Options window appears.

    2. Here you can select:

      • The default precision used to display a portfolio's cash amounts and share quantities.  Regardless of the display precision chosen, TakeStock 2 stores numeric information internally to a high level of precision (28 decimal places).

      • Whether or not a new portfolio should differentiate between short and long term capital gains, and if so, the minimum number of days a position must be held in order for it to be considered a long-term hold.

      • Whether a warning will be displayed if you attempt to purchase a position when the portfolio doesn't contain enough cash.

      • Whether a position's purchase price should be automatically deposited into the portfolio just prior to making the purchase.  Selecting this option will ensure the portfolio will never incur a negative cash balance due to insufficient funds.

    1. Select the options you want and click OK to apply them.
