 Version 0.15j, released 26 Nov 2011
  • Bug fixes:
    1. A change in Yahoo Finance's data format prevented TakeStock from displaying the local time and status for non-US markets.  This information is now correctly displayed.
    2. The Portfolio | Export command failed to export cash positions.  The export file now includes all positions.

  • Enhancements:
    1. The Portfolio | Export command has been implemented in preparation for migrating a TakeStock 0.15 database to TakeStock 2 (under development).  To learn more about TakeStock 2, please visit the TakeStock 2 site.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. A change in Yahoo Finance's data format prevented TakeStock's symbol finder from working.  The symbol finder now works as expected.
    2. A change in TakeStock's chart provider's data format prevented the Chart tool from working.  The Chart tool now works as expected.

  • Bug fixes:
    1. Invalid data received from Yahoo Finance for the last trade value of a security caused TakeStock to display unreadable characters.  TakeStock now displays "N/A" for an invalid last trade value.
    2. A change in Yahoo Finance's data format prevented TakeStock's symbol finder from working.  The symbol finder now works as expected.

 Version 0.15g, released 14 Mar 2008
  • Enhancements:
    1. If a security's last trade value is not available, its previous close value (if available) is shown in its place, prefixed by "c".
    2. TakeStock automatically checks if a new version of the software is available, every 7 days.  If a new version is available, an informational message is displayed.  The new version is not automatically downloaded.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. A change in Yahoo Finance's data format prevented TakeStock's symbol finder from working and prevented portfolios from being updated if they contained an index entry.  TakeStock now works as expected.

  • Bug fixes:
    1. The held duration for a sold security was incorrectly displayed.  The duration is now correctly computed as the time between the date of purchase and the date of sale.

    1. A change in Yahoo Finance's data format prevented TakeStock's symbol finder from working.  The symbol finder now works as expected.

  • Bug fixes:
    1. A change in Yahoo Finance's data format prevented TakeStock from displaying the current market time and status for the Australian and French markets.  Status information for these markets is now correctly displayed.

  • Enhancements:
    1. TakeStock automatically saves a backup copy of its database to the \backup folder in its installation directory on startup.
    2. The File | Backup command allows you to backup TakeStock's database at any time.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. Deleting a portfolio would sometimes cause TakeStock to crash.  This no longer happens.

  • Bug fixes:

    This version contains 2 display related fixes.

    1. The "Open" column displayed invalid information for some securities.
    2. When a security's day range was not available, the "Day Range" column would display "0.00 - 0.00".  The column now displays "N/A" when the day range is not available.

  • Enhancements:
    1. The Historical Prices window is now able to retrieve historical prices much faster.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. On some Windows XP and Vista systems, attempts to run TakeStock would cause the following message to appear: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling the application may fix the problem."  The application now starts normally.

  • Enhancements:
    1. The new Sell and Unsell commands allow sales of security positions to be tracked.  Held and
      sold positions are displayed in separate tabs within a portfolio view.
    2. Distinct buy, sell, and stop-loss target prices may now be specified for a security position.
    3. The following new columns have been added:
      • Buy, sell and stop-loss target prices
      • Distance (absolute/percentage) of last trade from target prices
      • Alert (buy/sell recommendation based on targets and current price)
      • Duration held (in years)
      • Previous close price
      • 52 week low
      • 52 week high
      • Distance of last trade from 52-week low and high
      • Bid and ask sizes
      • Short ratio
      • Today's volume as percentage of
        average daily volume
      • 50 and 200 day moving averages
      • Absolute and percentage changes in
        50 and 200 day moving averages
      • Estimated P/E ratio (this/next yr)
      • Estimated earnings per share (this qtr, this/next year)
      • Net sale proceeds
      • Post-sale gain, duration, and per-share price change
    4. Charts can now be displayed for securities on the OTC Bulletin Board Market as well as these
      non-US exchanges:
      • Canada
      • France
      • Germany
      • Hong Kong
      • Netherlands
      • New Zealand
      • Norway
      • Italy
      • Spain
      • Sweden
      • Switzerland
      • UK
    5. The "Edit Position" window now allows a security position's symbol to be changed.
    6. The "Select Portfolio" window can be resized, allows the creation of new portfolios, and displays the number of positions in the selected portfolio.
    7. The "Available columns" list in the Choose Columns window has been categorized for easier selection.  Positioning the mouse over a column in the "Selected columns" list displays the column's description in a tooltip.
    8. Colors used to indicate a portfolio's alternate rows and sorted column can be customized.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. TakeStock was unable to retrieve the latest trade prices if the the total number of unique securities exceeded 200.  TakeStock now supports an unlimited number of unique securities.
    2. The day range for security positions was displayed as "N/A - N/A".  This no longer happens.

 Version 0.14, released 1 Sep 2006
  • Enhancements:
    1. Columns:
      • A "1-yr %age Estimated Gain" column has been added.
      • These columns are now sorted in descending order by default:
            Change, % Gain, CAGR
      • A "Choose Columns" button has been added to the main toolbar.
      • The Choose Columns window can now be resized.
    2. The "Info" command has been implemented.  Clicking the Info button displays summary information about the selected security.
    3. The application conforms to the selected visual theme when running under Windows XP.

  • Enhancements:
    1. The following new columns have been introduced:
          Exchange, Shares Floated, CAGR (compounded annual growth rate)
    2. Portfolio columns can be sorted.
    3. The TakeStock window displays the total number of items and the number of selected items in the currently viewed portfolio.
    4. The portfolio summary can be limited to selected items.
    5. Portfolios can display alternate rows in color.
    6. Several commonly used menu commands are available by right-clicking the portfolio.
    7. Portfolio columns that aren't applicable to indexes (eg: 1-yr Est) now appear blank instead of displaying "N/A".
    8. The Chart window's interval selector now includes a 6-month duration.
    9. The size of the Select Portfolio and Choose Columns windows has been increased.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. The summary section in the printed version of a portfolio was missing the "Equity" amount.

  • Enhancements:
    1. To guard against display errors, the number of shares for an individual security holding is limited to 1M (1,000,000) and the total currency value of a portfolio to 4B (4,000,000,000).  Although exceeding these limits may cause the portfolio summary to display incorrectly, TakeStock will continue to store these values correctly.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. Large currency amounts (approx. 50M) in the portfolio summary at the bottom of the main window were sometimes incorrectly displayed.  The error was a display problem and not a computational or data storage issue.
    2. The market summary text at the bottom of the screen omitted +/- indicators for some exchanges.  This no longer happens.

    1. The Symbol Finder window can now also locate symbols for ETFs, futures and indexes.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. The absolute component of the "Change" column would display "N/A" for some positions.

  • Enhancements:
    1. The Symbol Finder window can be resized.
  • Bug fixes:
    1. The Symbol Finder tool had stopped working and would always return "No results".
    2. Securities that had a comma in their name (eg: "BAIDU.COM, INC.") would not display properly.
    3. The 52-week range column displayed illegible information when the yearly low/high prices for the security were not available.  The column now displays "N/A" for these securities.
    4. The "Equity" amount in the portfolio summary area of the TakeStock window was not cleared when the "None" portfolio was selected.

    1. The "Current value" computation in the portfolio summary no longer takes margin debt entries into account.  These are instead reflected in a new "Equity" computation.

    2. A newly added security's purchase price would not be shown until the display had been updated at least once.  The purchase price is now shown as soon as the security is added.

    4. Margin amounts were displayed in black instead of red.
