 Adding a holding

To add a holding to the currently displayed portfolio, select Holding | New or click the New Holding toolbar button.  TakeStock displays the "New Holding" window.

Adding a security

To add a security, click the "Security" tab and enter the security's symbol.  If you know the quantity (number of shares held) and the per-share price, enter this information.  Click OK to add the holding.

Adding a security

  • If you don't know the security's symbol, click Symbol Finder to use the symbol finder tool.
  • The "Quantity" and "Per-share price" fields are optional.  However, you should enter this information to get an accurate value of your portfolio.  If you don't remember the per-share price, click Find Historical Price to use the historical price tool.
  • The "Per-share target" field is optional.  Enter this value if you want TakeStock to keep track of the difference between the security's current price and the target.  The difference is displayed in the portfolio's "Distance" column.
  • To enter a purchase date, check the "Purchase date" box and select a date.  The purchase date is automatically entered when you use the historical price tool.
  • If you want TakeStock to track the portfolio's margin equity, check the "This equity is marginable at" box and enter the percentage and minimum price information.
  • Enter a brief comment (optional) in the "Comment" box.
